2nd Grade

Welcome to the 2nd grade website!  Please take a moment to explore our section to learn more about the wonderful world of second grade.
We always have a great time in 2nd grade!  In addition to teaching the state-mandated curriculum, we also celebrate special days throughout the year.
Every September, we learn about college and careers during College Go Week.  We explore majors, take virtual campus tours, and visit a real university!
We also celebrate the 80th day of school and dress in our best 80's outfits.  We play math games and read about what the 80's were like.
Our annual Reenactment is an OJN tradition.  The 2nd grade students dress up as Native Americans.  Prior to Reenactment, the students learn about various tribes so they can understand the importance of their role in Reenactment.
There are also many school-wide dress-up days throughout the year that students can participate in.  These days usually line up with holidays, Family Reading Nights, or other special days.
We offer alternative educational opportunities for students through a variety of field trips.  Field trips help the students apply what they are learning about at school to the real world.  In 2nd grade we take the following field trips:
  • Science Central (Hands-On Science Exploration)
  • Honeywell Center (Educational Shows and Musicals)
  • Walk Into My Future at Manchester University (College and Career Readiness)
